Problems with bf baby

I have been breastfeeding for 7 weeks now and have had no major problems so far. My baby is sleeping fine during the night and at his morning nap, but then the problems start.
He starts getting fussy when feeding after his morning sleep and keeps coming off the boob and crying when I try and wind him. He brings up alot of sick when I wind him but he is starting to hurt my nipples as he is yanking on them and by repeatedly going on and off. I try putting him on the other boob to see if that help but only for a few minutes.

Then I have problems getting him to sleep. He is tired and will start to fall asleep on the boob but when I put him down for his afternoon nap he wakes up 20 minutes later (he normally has a good 2-3 hours). I try winding him again and feeding him but we just dpend the whole afternoon with him starting to feed, falling asleep but waking up a few minutes later crying.

This then goes on to evening and I have to just let him cry to get him to go to sleep.

Like I said he is fine the rest of the night and morning. My boobs are getting sore and its becoming stressful for us.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated (I see my health visitor next week so I will ask her then).

Hi there,
Sorry no one has got back to you sooner, half term is always a busy time!

It's not unusual for babies to suddenly change their feeding patter for no apparent reason, I am affraid that is the nature of breastfeeding. The best thing you can do if at all possible is to go with it and let your baby regulate his own feeds.
He might be having a little bit of a growth spurt, this is when babies have a few days when they seem extra hungry. It would explain why he has gone from going 2-3 hours to only 20 minutes between feeds during the day. Usually growth spurts only last a day or two if you just go with what your baby wants.

I'm a little concerned that he is bringing up a lot of sick, if that is happening regularly I would mention it to your health visitor. It's odd that it is only happening at certain times of day. How long has this been happening?

How often does you baby feed at night? I am wondering if he is maybe going a little bit too long, then waking up very hungry and gorging himself until he's sick? Do you think that could be possible?

Thanks for your reply. The health visitor says he has colic so I have been using colic drops which are really helping. Apparently all the sick is due to wind not coming up properly.

He is much better now, still not sleeping properly in the afternoon all the time but it does mean he sleeps well at night! lol

He wakes about 3 times at night and generally isnt sick at night time feeds just during the day. He went through a growth spurt a couple of nights ago where he was waking every 1-2 hours and feeding for an hour. Exhausting but back to normal last night.

He had his immunisations today so not sure what to expect tonight but I just keep using the colic drops for the time being.
